My everyday Haircare

Hey everyone, I've been meaning to write this post since over a year now. Countless requests, comments and DM's have made me finally give in. 'm not a beauty blogger, so I found this a little outside my comfort zone. That being said, I hope it's helpful to a few of you all and it answers most of your queries. P.S – Nothing in this post is sponsored. I’ve added clickable links to the product names. Haircare routine - I try and switch my shampoos around because I find that any one brand causes a product build up over time. Same can be said for any conditioner. I try and stick to washing my hair not more than twice a week. Basically the more you wash your hair, the more you will NEED to wash it. I’ve trained my hair to stay clean looking for around 4 days, and for SOS days there’s always dry shampoo. Overall guidelines that I follow when choosing my shampoo – I try and stick to an SLS free formula (SLS is basically the chemical that makes your shampoo or laundry detergent lather) they tend to be milder formulas and don’t strip the hair of their natural oils. I'm currently using Loreal Ever Pure SLS Free Shampoo I do however alternate with a regular sudsy SLS formula once a month to properly cleanse the scalp because my hair is quite thick. I usually use a silver shampoo (which has a slight purple dye in it) to help keep the orange-brassy tones in my hair at bay since my hair is coloured. I'm currently using Daddy-O by LUSH With regard to conditioners, for regular use I try and use silicone free formulas. Although these initially make your hair very soft and shiny, the product buildup is absolutely horrible and will weigh your hair down. Silicone basically coats your hair, so imagine layer after layer building up over months. I'm currently using Kinky Curly Knot today (started off being my daughter’s conditioner). I usually go for a hair spa at the salon once a month and I'm partial to the Kerastase Fusio Dose treatment which immediately infuses extra moisture into my hair. I'm pretty sure this does have some silicone though, but this advanced formula doesn’t tend to cause buildup in my hair. Tools – Hairbrush - Mason pearson boar bristle and nylon brush. I don’t use heat on my hair as a thumb rule so basically I let my hair air dry. If I must blow dry / straighten bits of my hair I have the Dyson hairdryer and the GHD flat iron. Hair color - Goldwell 7NA – which is a Brown ash (You can buy this off amazon in the UK or the US and ask your usual hairdresser to do thin highlights) I've been doing this color since 2005 so it ends up looking rather global. Oils - I alternate between head oil massages and the salon Kerastase Fusio dose treatments I mentioned earlier. I aim for once or twice a month I don’t use leave ins or serums as these really weigh my hair down, I prefer a few drops of fennel oil as it doesn’t leave a greasy residue. Any other questions, do leave me your comments down below, I promise I'll try and answer them soon xx
